So, an antipodean (Warren) who is scared of heights and an english girl with a high-heel obsession (Katherine) have decided, against all reason, to climb Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for the Voluntary Services Organisation (VSO).
The VSO is an incredible charity that relies on the skills of around 2,000 volunteers - making it the largest independent charity working through volunteers. They work in six specific areas: HIV and AIDS, disability, participation and governance, secure livelihoods, education, health and well-being - working in 30 countries in the poorest regions of the world.
Kili is a whopping 5896m above sea-level, and the hike will involve trekking through 5 different eco-systems over 7 days. Current training to date, for what will be a massive physical challenge, has involved carbo-loading on Pancake Day and setting up this page.
This is a huge challenge - and we need your support. The aim of the trek is to raise money, and the targets are high. Please donate what you can and check this page regularly, where we'll give you information on various fundraising events, as well as updates on our training progress (currently slow), links to things like our blog etc.
We will be funding the trip ourselves and also making a donation - the cash we raise is all for the VSO, so please give generously.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Voluntary Service Overseas gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Katherine will not be climbing in heels - unless the amount of money raised goes over £50,000. Consider this a challenge.
