Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Once again its time for me to dust off the backpack, put on my hiking boots, and climb some mountains.......I chose the Himalayas this time! All in the name of charity again............The British Liver Trust. Most of you know my reasons for choosing this charity but just in case you don't. In March 2005 my mum passed away aged only 57 years, the cause......liver disease. Although there are many causes and types of liver disease, one of the most common is what's known as 'decompensated chronic liver disease' caused by alcohol, sadly this is what ended my dear mums life. The British Liver Trust is the national charity working to reduce the impact of liver disease in the UK through support, information and research. The trust has been badly hit by the financial downturn, while the number of people affected by liver disease continues to rise. Liver disease is one of the five most serious health problems in the UK and it is estimated in the next 6 to 10 years the need for liver transplants will increase by 500%! By choosing to support the British Liver Trust today you can help fight liver disease. Now for a little bit about what my trek involves. I will be joining a group of 15 people, known of who I know, and all of who are raising funds for different charities, on a two week trekking adventure through the Indian Himalayas. This unique expedition combines Himalayan trekking with a visit to India's exiled Tibetan community. The challenge begins and ends in Dharamsala, where the Dalai Lama and the centre of the Tibetan community are situated, at the heart of the worlds highest mountain range. This all sounds very nice but the reality is that after a very long journey to our starting point in Bir at the foothills of the Himalayas we then start our daily ascents, trekking for up to 8 hours a day. So as you'd expect on such a trip I will be working hard and sweating plenty in temperatures ranging from 0 to 29 degrees! However the toughest challenge of all is to raise the £3000 target for the British Liver Trust! Please donate as much as you can for this amazing cause! Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Liver Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now and start to help fight liver disease today!! Thanks for taking time to read this. Sally xx
