It was in a moment of weakness (or was it madness?) back in August 2007 that I found myself volunteering – yes volunteering – of my own free will to run the Flora London Marathon 2008 on behalf of Burrswood.
Running has never been one of my strengths; in fact it has been a positive weakness within my sporting endeavours. So why now, aged 56, am I putting myself through this ordeal? Maybe it’s because I need a goal to get myself fit or is it the love of a sporting challenge? Both may be true, but the real motivation is that I passionately believe in Burrswood and long for more people to be able to benefit, regardless of their financial means.
And so I began to jog/walk two or three miles, a few times a week whilst awaiting the ballot entry results. The London Marathon is hugely oversubscribed and only a small percentage of people who apply succeed. When in December I heard I had not been accepted, I was very disappointed. However, locally based charity People International (P.I.) had a place, but no-one to run it. P.I is a charity that brings healing and the gospel to largely Islamic countries in the Near East.They, like us,strive to bring healing through relationship, allowing the presence of Jesus to touch people’s lives in and through our everyday work.
Burrswood and P.I are both dependent on God to supply our ongoing needs and to continue to bless and heal people through our ministry and work.
