Update 11 May 2006 Well I did it . . . . . . ALL !!! It took me just over 6hrs 30mins and I ended up walking in a group of four, myself, Jamie S, Tim and Nick.
It was a nice warm sunny day even though rain was predicted and the first half seemed to go OK, except my feet were getting sore. After finishing I now know why, they were covered in blisters, even though my wife bought me a pair of dual lined "Thousand Mile Socks", I think the trick that I missed was to put plenty of talc into them first, oh well hindsight is a wonderful thing. The blister have taken just over 10 days to clear up and everything is now back to normal
I am on target to raise just over a £1000 together with the cash and cheque donations so I am really pleased, it is all down to you generous people !
Altogether around 58 of us did the walk and another 6 will be doing the London to Brighton bike ride in a couple of weeks, we are hopeful that we will raise in excess of £10,000 which should be a big help to Toby, his family and the hospital.
Thankyou to all of you for the support it has been fantastic. Until next time . . . . mmm feet blisters, we'll see!
Thanks
Gervais
**************************************************** Original Message Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I am not usually one who does these types of sponsorship events but this cause is very personal to me. Next Sunday (30th April) I am taking part in a sponsored walk for one of my friends. His name is Toby Bryant and he is 30 years old, last year Toby was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic, he was only coming to terms with the adjustment to his lifestyle when he went out for a few drinks and made the dangerous mistake of not eating first, he went home as normal that evening and when his parents discovered him the next morning his blood sugar level had plummeted and Toby had slipped into a diabetic coma in which he stayed in for 2 months.
He has now come out of the coma but is severely brain damaged to the point where he needs 24/7 specialist care which is being provided for him by the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney http://www.rhn.org.uk, this unit has worked wonders with other patients and we are all hopeful they might be able to do something for Toby. The unit is a self funded charity so hence the reason for this email.
A group of around 30 of his friends and family are getting together to do a 26 mile "Walk" between Hastings and Eastbourne, I doubt that I will make the whole lot but will be giving it a go, I'll be happy if I make it half way ;-).
The proceeds of the event are to be split between the Neurological unit and Toby's parents to cover the costs of the things that Toby needs and to also help towards their travelling expenses from
Hastings to Putney.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
