My story
I did it! I ran in the British 10K London Run on Sunday 11 July in order to raise money for a charity whose work is very dear to my heart - but, if you haven't already, please consider donating for this important cause. The race is finished but not some very important help from a charity I am raising money for.
I'm lucky in that when I came to terms with being gay, I was surrounded by friends who looked after me and helped me realise that it was those who told me that 'being homosexual is wrong' were themselves wrong.
Unfortunately, some youngsters are not so lucky. Their coming to terms with being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is met with rejection from their families - sometimes with violent results. Such youngsters can no longer live in the family home.
Help is at hand: The police, council and social services, and emergency helplines are able to refer those left homeless and vulnerable because of their sexual orientation into the safe haven provided by a charity called the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT). This charity provides supported lodgings, mentoring, information and advice for gay, lesbian and bisexual young people who are homeless, living in a hostile environment or in crisis.
When I ran the 10K (just over 6 miles) my motivation was to raise money for Albert Kennedy Trust not just so they could maintain their current services but to do more. I do hope you can help me by sponsoring me for this run, even though I have run it - the more money I raise, the more Albert Kennedy Trust can help homeless gay youngsters.

Since 1989, Albert Kennedy Trust has supported Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) young people (up to 25 year old) who are homeless or living in a hostile environment in Greater London and Greater Manchester. Their services include supported lodgings, mentoring, training and advice & guidance.
