I'm training three/four times a week including a 'long run' at the weekend which is now up to 15 miles! I'm running a half marathon mid-march at Silverstone so I'll have some photos to put up soon. Hopefully of me holding a medal with a smile on my face rather than crying in a heap on the floor.
As you can see on the left I ran the Silverstone Half Marathon. I managed a time of 1 hour 46 minutes which I was quite chuffed with. It was good to experience race day conditions and see where I was at with my training. I must admit the thought of the London Marathon being just over a month away is a bit daunting but with one last push and the support of all of you I know I can do it, and hopefully I might be able to enjoy it a little bit too!
01/04/09 PEAK WEEK!
On sunday I completed an 18 mile run. It was hard but it felt good to finish and to know I have the miles in my legs. Surprisingly my legs haven't been too bad since and i've recovered quite well. This week is my 'Peak Weak' (Marathon training speak). Can't remember exactly what that means but I do know I've only got one more 'long run' left, 20 miles, before I start to taper down my training. I've read that this can be a frustrating time as you feel like your and I quote 'capable of doing so much but unable to do, like a lion in a cage' somehow I don't think this will bother me too much but maybe my inner lion will be released in the coming weeks..i'll let you know!
20 miles in the bag! On sunday I managed to run 20 miles in about 2hr 45 mins so I'm on target to finish under 4 hours. A lot of aches and pains since but the feeling of completing 20 miles was great and will give me much needed confidence on race day. Now it's just up to you lovely people and the rest of the crowd to get me through the last 6 miles. I had to do the run in my race day gear, which is a bright orange vest (thanks everychild!), very small shorts that show of my lanky legs (thanks dad), and the new addition of a fanny pack, bum bag whatever you wanna call it (to carry my ipod and essential lucozade energy gels) which no matter how I wear it, even hidden under my vest, I still feel a little bit stupid. So along with my very red face and a couple of sweat bands I'm gonna look a picture!
I'm actually looking forward to it, not because I can't wait to run 26 miles, but because I can't wait to have more time to have a life and be able to enjoy the finer things..
Thanks for all your support
