My story
Message from Mark: Thanks for taking the time to look at our page. I'm hoping you are here to donate to Water Aid, a fine charity providing clean drinking water and sanitation to people in some of the world poorest countries. Good on ya! I have never run a marathon before. Until now the furthest I've ever run was about 12 miles on the last tour in Rome, and that was only because I got lost and couldn't find my way back to the hotel. I'm no Bob Geldof so I'll get to the reason why I think you should donate as much as possible. The nice people at Water Aid have promised a parking place only 5 minutes' walk from the finish line to the 100 people with the highest donations by Feb 3rd. After running 26 miles please don't make me walk for half an hour to get to my car. So, what are you waiting for? Seriously, it's a great cause and we would be grateful for any donations, however small. If you would like to read more about Water Aid click here
Update: 08:03:10 Yesterday we ran the Bath Half Marathon. I was slightly disappointed with my time of 1:41:58 and surprised how different it felt running without music (not allowed) and being elbowed by 13,000 other runners. Most of all, I was feeling depressed thinking how knackered I felt after 13 miles, knowing that Brighton was 7 weeks away and 26 miles long. Today my spirits were lifted by an email from Water Aid with the news that I'm one of their "Magic Runners" This means a good parking space and a massage. Hurrah! Thanks for raising more than £2K for Water Aid. I'm sure they will put it to good use. I'm hoping we can reach £5K by April 18th.
Message from Jon: Water Aid is a charity with a pretty straightforward remit - access to clean, safe water should be a right, not a privilege. This is my first marathon, and looking at the training schedules, it may well be my last. So thank you very much for looking, and please do donate to what is a fine cause. Of course, if we do happen to hit the target we'll also get access to the massage tent, but please, please don't let that sway your decision. Not even a little. Oh, go on then...
Update 20/3/2010: The Bath Half, which was looming ahead, is already fading into the distance and there's a month to go before the event itself. Training continues apace, up to 20 miles now, and no sign of the wall so fingers crossed. And a huge thanks for all the donations so far, which just goes to show a whole bunch of things, all of which are good!
