My story

Hey friends! I'm extremely excited/scared to be running the BUPA London 10,000 this year. Those of you who know me well will know that I'm not a 'sporty' person, so while 10K might not be a big distance for some people, for me it's like running eighteen consecutive marathons in an arid desert with no water, wearing a Slipknot-esque boiler suit (complete with mask). I'm a musician. I go on tour, eat kebabs, spend all day on the internet, and drink copious amounts of beer. Ladies and gentlemen, this 10K is my marathon.

More importantly, I'm doing the run to raise money for the wonderful charity Christian Aid, whose aim is to tackle poverty and injustice worldwide. Christian Aid work through The Americas, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and they hope to combat poverty by addressing the root causes, including climate change, conflict, HIV, human rights, and trade justice. Christian Aid also respond to global emergencies including recently the Haiti earthquake, floods in Peru, the Africa food crisis, the Sri Lanka crisis, Philippines floods, and the Darfur appeal.

However, Christian Aid do more great stuff than I could ever hope to explain in a few short paragraphs, so instead I urge you to go and check out all the work that they're doing on their website.

Finally, please please please give me some money! Christian Aid's work is very close to my heart, and I'm so excited to be doing this run. Anything you can spare, even £1 (or 1EUR0 for my Euro friends), will go so far in their work overseas, in countries that need the money far more than we do. Thank you so much for reading this, and if you're in London on May 31st then do come down and watch me sweat/cry/bleed.

Love from Luke

P.S. - There are eight weeks until the run, and every week I'll be posting an update about my training progress on my new running blog! These will include photos from a shoot I did with my friend Tom Price to promote the run, a few words about how much fruit I've eaten that week in preparation for the run, and maybe some Rocky-esque training video montages and other stuff about my progress. I promise you, it will be riveting. A total must-read. Check it out now at http://lukeleighfield10K.tumblr.com

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision - an end to poverty - and we believe that vision can become a reality.
