THANKS FOR SUPPORT...FINISHED IN 3HRS 54MINS 46 SECS SUN, RAIN, NEARLY HAIL & VERY SORE THIGHS STILL TIME TO DONATE TO HEADWAY!!! THANKS ALSO TO MY OFFLINE SPONSORS: Rio Tinto's Charities Committee, Graham Birch, Celia. I ran this year for Headway - the brain injury association - a great charity that has supported fellow alumni of the Royal School of Mines, including Charles Hutson and Pamela Murphy. Charles became a beneficiary of Headway after suffering very severe head injuries when he tried to stop a robbery at his local jeweller in Highgate in March 2003, deliberately thrown off the bonnet of the speeding getaway car. He has made a good recovery but will never return to work. See later for Pamela's story and link to her webpage. If you are not familiar with Justgiving.com, donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is the most efficient way to sponsor me & Headway will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you for supporting Headway and motivating me!
TRAINING BLOG: 10/2: Sunday afternoon training run c. 6miles around Farnham. During the week: Slight twisted ankle & caught the cold the family has been trying to give me for weeks, hopefully will not catch Zachary's 'dicky' tummy. Hot toddy Friday night to fight the cold & 'fingers crossed' I'll escape the latter ailment affecting my son. 27/2: 17 days later. What have I been upto? Have been running on/off. Got out at the weekend for some hills, to get the heart pumping. Running between Waterloo & the office. Think I need to shed some pounds though to ease the burden on my legs. Will aim to focus on this & move to soup only lunch. Oh, bought Garmin GPS, heard it's what the pros use. Just over 4.5 weeks to the Kingston Breakfast Run 16-miler & then 2 weeks more to the big day. 13/3: 1 month to go!!!. Ran 9.5 miles last Sunday, 1hr 34 mins. Again on Tuesday evening for 30 mins along the river before a black-tie dinner at Ironmongers Hall and a couple of glasses of Chateau Talbot 1996, courtesy of the City & Guilds College Association. Still a lot of training to do. Slight disruption this coming weekend with a Stag Do. Not originally part of my training plan, but I hope to get a quick run in on Saturday early morning before heading off. Unlikely I will be training on Sunday. Just received an email from a fellow RSM alum Pamela Murphy who is another beneficiary of Headway and is running the marathon. Well done to Pam!!! To sponsor Pam go to www.justgiving.com/pamelamurphy1. 16/3: Family is sick with flu & cold, but we battle on. Biked to the station & ran to work & then all the way back. Probably c 7miles. Not bad for a week day. Big runs planned for this Easter weekend. Really cutting back on the beer now. Minor jitters setting in, none moreso when Cecile says I need to train more. Thanks. 24/3: Two training runs in over the weekend. Fri 1hr 30mins circa 8-9 miles & then today in all weathers 1hr 53mins circa 11.73miles. Shattered! Had to go & lie down for a rest afterwards. Cecile's probably right that I'm not as young as I used to be. I'll show her. Keep the faith & keep the money coming in. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT SO FAR! 26/3: Who will be the sponsor to take funds raised past the £1000 mark? TONY TAKES THE TARGET OVER THE £1K HURDLE! COME ON THE TOON! THANK YOU! 30/3: 16-miles on the Kingston Breakfast Run, 2hrs 22mins. I hate it when they put the clocks forward & to top it all this year it's the night before this annual get together. A brutal 08:25 start. 9/4: Getting nervy!!! 10/4: Registered & there's no turning back now!!! I think I'm catching a cold, which would be great. 13/4: Post-race Guiness!
