Hi Everyone, Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Those of you who know me personally may know that my Mum, Linda Warland, has recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and is currently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital, London. Mum has been a supporter of Leukaemia Research for over 20 years. Her brothers, Keith and Roger both had and fought leukaemia, but tragically didn't survive. Back in May 1985, Mum, her sister Carole and sister-in-law Maureen completed a 287 mile walk from John O'Groats to Edinburgh to raise money for the Leukaemia Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital. The walk took 8 days to complete and was extremely challenging, both physically and mentally. Between them, Mum, Carole and Maureen raised nearly £5000 to help save and improve the lives of people with leukaemia. I am immensely proud of their achievement, and in light of Mum's diagnosis, I have decided that the time has come for me to take on the mantle and try to raise as much money as I can for this very worthy cause that is close to all of our hearts. Which brings me to the reason that you are here......... On 16th October 2009 (weather permitting), I will be jumping out of a plane to raise money for Leukaemia Research. The jump that I will be doing is a tandem skydive. I will be strapped to an experienced instructor and will jump from around 13,000 feet, freefalling at 120mph for 1 vertical mile before floating gracefully (I hope) to the ground. It all sounds quite easy but I am guessing that I will not feel so confident when I am sitting in the plane waiting to go. Some of you may be skeptical of sponsoring people to partake in 'fun' fundraising activities - thinking that half the money donated will go towards paying for the activity itself, but in this instance 100% of all funds raised will go directly to Leukaemia Research. My husband, Alex, has very generously offered to pay for the jump itself to ensure that all of your sponsorship will go towards saving lives. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leukaemia Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
If you would like to know more about the work that Leukaemia Research do, please visit their website at www.lrf.org.uk.
Julie xx P.S. If anyone fancies coming to laugh/show support and buy me a much needed drink when it's all over please do. I am planning on having the jump (and landing) videoed so there should be plenty to laugh about!
