The Great Wall of China Trek, September 2009 In Special Memory of John Townsend Raising funds for the British Heart Foundation - Help to Save a Life! Hi, Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I am very proud to be Walking the Great Wall of China in memory of John, my step dad, who had been very supportive about the trek, and suddenly died on 29th Jan 2009. It is the biggest personal challenge I have ever faced but I never expected this challenge to get quite so personal. I want to give something back to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) so more lives can be helped or saved by their work. What can be a more worthwhile cause. Please Help me!! Steve and I are travelling with the Charity Challenge organisation to climb all those steps on the Great Wall of China. For 5 days we will trek approximately 11kms - 20kms along the stony path, twisting and winding its way along the mountains, It is going to be an amazing, magical experience but certainly not going to be a walk in the park! There's a lot of training and work I need to do before then!Professionally why am I doing this? As a Resuscitation Trainer for Swindon's Great Western Hospital, I am lucky to be promoting the Heartstart UK Schools Programme. This is an amazing scheme provided free for schools by the BHF, and gives teachers the knowledge, skills and materials needed to give our children the gift of knowing how to Save a Life. As I have found out, who knows if someone we love will need to benefit from this gift. As the saying goes 'Pennies turn to Pounds' so even donating £2, just the price of a cake & cup of coffee will help. So please help me and give what you can.
