Educating girls and women is widely recognised as the single most powerful weapon in the fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa. Since 1993, the Campaign for Female Education (Camfed) has been supporting girls through school in some of the poorest rural areas of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania and Malawi. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to have a great education - in 2009 I'm running the Edinburgh Marathon for those who aren't so fortunate.

Please give generously, as educating women and girls in the third world is one of the most effective ways to help impoverished communities to develop in a lasting and sustainable way.

A donation of £25 provides a year of primary education.

A donation of £75 provides a year of secondary education.

A donation of £50 provides business training and a start-up grant for a school leaver.

£10 can help peer health educators spread vital information on HIV/Aids.
