I appreciate any contributions and feel privileged to be part of the 150 year celebration of District Nursing. The date 1859 is said to be when the first home care nurses were deployed and training was soon established with the purpose of "Providing trained Nurses for the Sick Poor".

For those Canadians visiting the site, you may be more familiar with "VON" nurses or the "Victoria Order of Nurses". In 1887, Queen Victoria donated a relatively large sum of money (£70,000) to further district nursing on a national scale, the idea of which spread throughout "the empire". This 'Queen Victoria Jubilee Institute' later became the 'Queens Institute for District Nursing' and is now known as the "Queens Nursing Institute".
