Hello and welcome to my fundraising page. In March 2009 I will be trekking to Everest Base Camp...I fancy a bit of a ramble. This trivial saunter involves a 17 day 'trip' (I use the term lightly) were I shall reach heights of up to 17,600 ft and experience temperatures of -10 C. As you can see this is no mere walk in the park. Apparently, wandering off alone is not a good idea in the Himalayas, so therefore I shall be trekking with the British Heart Foundation in order to raise lots of funds for their obviously worthy cause. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in England, the USA , Canada and Australia so I'm sure that almost all of us, at some stage of our lives know someone who has been affected by this illness. To help raise funds, and as part of my training, I am hoping to participate in a number of challenges over the next few months. To prove I'm doing them, and partially because I'm a bit of a fitness geek, I'm going to list the events and the times it takes me to complete them below. They include: · Reading Half Marathon - 1.41.16 · Bolton 10k - 45.08 · Sheffield Half Marathon - 1.38.00 · Cross Bay Half Marathon - Race Abandoned after 5 miles · Blackpool Illuminations 10k - 44.07 · Bristol Half Marathon - 1.37.27 · Preston 10k - 41.40 · Half Marathon Row (Penwortham Leisure Centre) - 1.32.03 · Birmingham Half Marathon - 1.37.15 · Lancaster Half Marathon - 1.33.33 · Preston 10 Mile Road Race - 1.09.59 · Cyprus Half Marathon - 1.39.01 · Ribble Valley 10k - 43.34 · Garstang 10k - 43.17 · Chernobyl10k - 43.12 · Half Marathon Row (Morrison's, Preston) - 1.31.57 The not so simple task of reaching Everest Base Camp shall be undertaken in March/April next year and my aim now is to raise £3200, £1600 by December. Rumour has it, the more I raise, the more chance of survival I have. So hopefully, with your help, no matter how great or small, I shall reach my target and come home safely. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Heart Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please do take the time to sponsor me! Cheers Chris
