Hi folks! Just to let you know that I managed to finish the Flora London Marathon. The last 4 miles in pouring rain was very painful! I had a good run for the first half (13 miles), on course for just beating 5 hours, but I hit 'the wall' at 18 miles and my jogging had to be mixed with a little walking to recover. But still made 5 hours 41 minutes, which I was pleased with. I have to say the crowds (including family and friends) were fantastic and very encouraging, especially in the pouring rain near the end.
As this is my BIG 60th year, it was definitely a 'do or die' effort. But all the training over the last three months were more than worthwhile. I'll continue to run regularly, and my wife Sue and son Alex are thinking of entering next year's race. Sue has already run a 10-miler with me when I was training!
So dear friends, thank you for your support. I'm so grateful for the donations received. They were an inspiration for the training and long runs. But we are not finished yet. I know there are still one or two donations to come in for the Brain & Spine Foundation. I will let you personally know what we finish with, which will be way beyond our target.
We reached the initial £1,000 so have now moved it up to £1,500. My son's school, Skinners, is holding a non-uniform day in May which should help to reach this new target. So, again, thanks for all your support.
Kindest...
Jack
