My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I'm doing this as i'm 50 this year and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Just like the running in the piccy i'm going to have to get in plenty of training. The training will be cycle up the hill, cycle down the hill, and repeat in preparation for 100 miles of it!!

The south downs way randonnee is about 100 miles off road and climbs over 11,600 feet (which is the same as cycling up ben nevis 3 times in a day. We are aiming to complete the ride in 12-13 hours. I have done road centuries before, but off road is 1.5 to 2 times harder so it would be like doing 150-200miles on the road.

I am under no illusion though this is going to be hard and i've no doubt i'll throw my toys out of the pram at some point but by sponsoring me i'll make sure i pick them up and carry on.

I have worked out that i'll use around 8,000 calories during the day so keeping me fueled is important along with being hydrated. The ride is unsupported so i have to carry what i need - though there are water taps along the route to top up my hydration pack.  I will also be carrying some bike spares just in case along with spare tyres (in case of flints) and tubes.

As my wife Sarah says its time to "pedal Forest pedal"
