My story

So I finished the race in 1:30.38 - the fastest I'd ever run that distance (my phone app said I covered 10.44 miles though).  Anyway, I felt really proud to do this and probably experienced the best sense of achievement in a while.  It was all the more meaningful as my Mum died just over 2 weeks before the race so I ran the race with pictures of both Kieran and my Mum (for Facebook friends, pictures are in the link below) attached to my running vest with messages for Kieran and Granny from my daughter Grace (aged 5).  I know my Mum was very proud of what I was doing for a mate - so to Kieran and Mum, God Bless.

There's still a short amount of time to sponsor me before this is closed off.  I'm not sending any Christmas cards this year - instead I'm adding an additional donation to the end for the amount I would have spent on cards, postage etc..  You can too. I hope you have a good Christmas, and if there's one thing that 2010 has taught us, it's to be thankful for what we've got  and cherish the people we still have.  Things won't be the same but your memory helps us carry on. God Bless. Darren x

================================================================

Hi, Darren here - thanks for visiting this page, I really hope you can give something to help the British Heart Foundation and the memory of one of the best mate's you could ever wish for.

I'm running the Great South Run on what would have been my mate, Kieran Greenstreet's 40th birthday weekend - the run is on 24th October 2010 in Portsmouth.  Very sadly and untimely, Kieran died of a massive heart attack in May at the very young age of 39.  He left behind his partner Ellie and little son Rory, as well as leaving a huge hole in all our lives.  Kieran was a very popular person - always bubbly, with a good word to say about everyone.  He was funny, kind and a great person to spend time with. When I saw this event was organised for the weekend of his 40th, I couldn't think of a better way to honour Kieran's memory than doing this run; and no more relevant charity to run with than the BHF.

If you knew Kieran; or know me and some of the great people I can count as friends; or have had someone close to you affected by heart problems - please spare a thought and spare some change.

I know we all get bombarded with requests for donations these days, but it would mean a lot to me and those who loved Kieran if we could help out others through the British Heart Foundation.

I miss my mate Kieran - but I'm sure he'd have a laugh at the thought of me running!

Please sponsor me - Darren
