Thank you for stopping by. As you may be aware, I went on a journey in 2007 from fatness, booze, chocolate and cigs to a bit of a fitness fanatic dropping most of these most of the time. The high point was completing the London Marathon for the first time in under 4 hours. Thanks to the staggeringly generous support from friends , family and colleagues I managed to raise nearly £7k for the Stroke Association. I wasn't going to impose on people again this year as you may have 'giving fatigue' by now and I can quite understand this. However, when I was told that both my wonderful father and father-in-law had both been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in the same week and at the same age, then the charity to run for was obvious. Hopefully, by raising money I can help not only my Dad and father-in-law but also thousands of people who will get this illness in the future. (see left for details of the charity's work). I have since been really bitten by the running bug and ran 2100 miles in 2007 and completed loads of races including actually winning one albeit against local pubgoers who had only stopped drinking a couple of hours before. Dad's been quite impressed with his son's transformation from lazy fat git, so I want him to see me smash last year's time with under three and a half hours a minimum target. (scary!). He'll be there in London come April. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Prostate Cancer Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
If you would like to sponsor me please do! Many thanks for your support . Oh and if you're a man over 40 and you have the opportunity to have the Prostate test as part of a medical say yes every time! Update 11/4 ; Training's gone well ; over 750 miles so far in 2008 and a couple of sub 90 min 1/2 marathons. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the charity. Marvellous! Looking forward to Sunday now but with a bit of apprehension for miles 20-26.2. Done and dusted! Finished in 3 hours 20 mins and 21 secs which was a little outside the 3.14.59 I was aiming for to secure 2 years of automatic entry. It was all peachy until 23.5 miles when I stupidly decided to speed up to the tune of "Let Me Entertain You" (and I don't even like Robbie Williams!). It was then that I was hit like a sniper by cramp in both quads and spent 2 and half minutes writhing on the tarmac being helped out by a kind spectator. I managed to get up to a big cheer from the crowd who thought I was going to lie down a lot longer and proceeded gingerly to the finish. The finish was quite emotional as my Mum and Dad were in the grandstand cheering me through so shed a little tear at the end. A little disappointed overall, but hey, I whupped Gordon Ramsay and most of the celebrities and beat last year by 33 mins. Unfinished business methinks! A massive thank you for those who have donated. It was one of the main things that kept me going between 23.5 and 26.2 miles.
