My story
Friends have been incredibly generous with sponsorship. As we write some money has still to come in but we are already well over £6,000 and anticipate that, together with Gift Aid, our total will be moving towards £7,000 for Christian Aid We have exceeded our original £5K target by a mile.
Even on the train en route to Greenwich there was a tangible excitement among those going both to take part and the many going for a day out to watch. It is estimated that over a million people lined the streets to support the runners and they made all the difference with shouts of encouragement. At times, especially south of the River, only the ear splitting music from bands and loudspeakers drowned out their shouts. But, eventually, travelling along the Embankment, through Parliament Square – where the family were- and up the Mall to the finish was a once in a lifetime experience. We even managed it in a little under 6 hours (5.56.07) which was faster than we has anticipated.
