In the UK: - Heart disease is the country's biggest killer - Every 6 minutes someone dies of a heart attack - 1 in 5 men and 1 in 7 women die from heart disease - 4,600 babies are born with congenital heart disease each year Help us raise money for the nation’s heart charity, the British Heart Foundation (BHF), registered charity number 225971, whose work will one day save your life or the life of someone close to you. Lydia's uncle has recently passed away from a heart attack. Further, Joey's grandfather died of a heart attack, his mum has a heart murmur, and both he and his sister have had to see a heart specialist before they were 20 years old. We are aiming to raise a minimum of £7,500 for the BHF by taking part in several events listed below. We will pay for the cost of all the trips which means that every pound you donate goes directly to the BHF. So far you sponsors have raised £3,385, almost half way there! Please help us reach our target! 2009 5k Hyde Park Jog (15th April) - DONE! PERU INCA TRAIL TREK (9th - 18th May) - DONE! 5k Canary Wharf Jog (3rd June) - DONE! London to Brighton Bike Ride (21st June) - DONE! Adidas Women's 5k Challenge (6th September) - DONE! 2010 BASE CAMP EVEREST TREK (11th - 28th March) CLIMB MOUNT KILIMANJARO (2nd - 12th September) The highlights are the three treks. In Peru we scale heights of 4,216m before reaching Machu Picchu, Lost City of the Incas. Base Camp Everest will take us up to 5,634m from Kathmandu at the foothills of the Himalayas. In Tanzania we will summit at 5,895m to the Rooftop of Africa. The donations that the BHF receives are spent on pioneering research, vital education and information, and care for heart patients: - Funds 26 BHF professors and ~1,200 research projects - Over 1,620 Heartstart UK schemes teach people what to do in an emergency - Over 400 BHF Heart nurses care for patients across the UK
