Being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness should not mean that ‘normal’ life grinds to a halt, but most people need help to deal with the consequences of such a diagnosis. Life-threatening illnesses affect everyone differently. Some people experience pain and physical symptoms; others may find their main worries are financial or emotional. Every day Dorothy House Hospice Care helps over 800 families affected by cancer, motor neurone disease and other life threatening conditions, either in their own homes or at the hospice in Winsley. They aim to offer physical, psychological, social and spiritual care to patients and their families facing life threatening illness, death or bereavement with a focus on quality of life.
Having worked for Dorothy House last year, it was amazing to see how much of a difference their services make to patients, friends and family. £2.5 million is required to maintain their services at the current level, (that's more than £7000 a day!!!) and therefore it has become a passion of ours to ensure that this incredible service continues support people affected by terminal illness. We therefore have taken on the challenge to run the Flora London Marathon on the 26th April 2009, to raise at least £3000 or as much money as possible for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
We would be incredibly grateful for your support in ensuring the Dorothy House continues doing the great job that it does.
