I admit it. This has been the second toughest challenge of my life so far. Truth is anyone who knows me would say I'm not naturally built for running as my new friend, the physio, will tell you!
So, why am I running the Flora London Marathon?
In 1994, my mum Patricia Catherine Fitz-Gerald at the age of 49, passed away at St. Christopher's Hospice after a courageous fight against cancer. When she died it was like the world had stopped spinning.
My only consolation at that time was that St. Christopher's gave my mother dignity, calm and reassurance during the last few months of her life. Not only that, they enabled my mum to lead as much of a normal life as she could and gave us the support we needed.
St. Christopher's isn't alone in the amazing work they do - there are 253 hospices that provide care for terminally ill adults and children. But, they need our help to raise over £300 million every year to continue their invaluable role.
Running the marathon this year to raise money for Help the Hospices is not only my way of acknowledging the amazing work that the hospice movement does, it is also my way of saying "thank you" for helping me to overcome what was the toughest challenge of my life.
Please help me make a difference by donating whatever you can.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Help the Hospices will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support!
