Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Let's be clear from the outset... Neither of us will be riding a bike anywhere on the London Bikeathon. - Just like last year (2008)
Here's the story.... LRF have organised the London Bikeathon to raise money. They approached a Brass Band (no names but they know who they are) in 2008 to provide some entertainment at the venue and that Band agreed, but then, with little over a week to go before the event, the Brass Band changed their minds leaving LRF in the lurch. In an effort to retrieve the situation, Annie put together a Jazz Band for the day. That was fine but then we realised that there was no power supply available for the PA system and Keyboard. So, the nice people at LRF had to rent a generator for the day but that cost them money - something around £150 to £200 by our reckoning. The Jazz musicians, at very short notice, gave their time for nothing and we got up at some ungodly hour on a Sunday morning to get to the Thames Barrier early and lug the gear about and provide some entertainment for the day. We may not have been riding our bikes but we did do our bit for the day. We just think it's wrong that the LRF were let down and that's going to cost them money. This appeal from us was an effort to redress the balance a little. If you can afford to, please make a donation - especially if you are a member of that aforementioned Brass Band. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to help: Leukaemia Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
