My personal message:

Hi folks, thanks for visiting my fundraising page. In March 2009, i will be taking part in the BHF trek to Everest Base Camp. This will be a trip of a lifetime as well as fullfilling a lifelong dream. Not only that, i will be raising money for the BHF to help them with there research into heart disease.

This tough, exciting challenge begins by flying into Lukla set deep in the mountains of the Himalayas. We then trek through the homelands of the Sherpa people, among their villages and monasteries, with distant views of Everest and Ama Dablam. As we get closer to Everest Base Camp, well summit Kala Patter for the awe-inspiring views of the Kumbu Glacier, Nuptse and the south west face of Everest itself. Then its onto Everest Base Camp, set at 5364m / 17598ft above sea level. If were lucky, we may even bump into a summit expedition group. Pending good health and availability, we will be joined by the famous mountaineer, Doug Scott, the first Brit to summit Everest on 25th September, 1975.

I am a qualified nurse working within Cardioligy, and have seen for myself the pain, sufferring and distress that heart disease can cause, not only to the individual, but also to the family and freinds. I've also had a family member who had heart problems several years ago.  So by doing this trek, not only will i be fullfilling a dream, i will be doing my little bit towards helping with research into heart disease.

Heart and circulatory disease is the UK’s biggest killer:

Four out of ten people die from it (one of the worst records in Europe)

Coronary Heart Disease kills one in six women, four times more than breast cancer.

Someone has a heart attack every two minutes, half of which are fatal.

Deaths from smoking related heart disease kills over 30,000 people a year, more than from smoking related cancers.

The death rate in the UK is falling, but is still one of the highest in the world and the battle is far from won.

So, folks, please help me and  donate to this worthwhile charity,  no matter how small, every penny counts. Lets help the BHF raise the much needed funds to enable them to carry on the research, and for them to continue to help and support all those connected with heart disease.
