My story

Firstly, thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

Secondly, as you can see, I've already hit my initial target!

However, just because I've made it to the minimum required for the Brazil Trek in March 2009, I don't plan on stopping my fundraising just yet! There is so much that can be done and such a difference that can be made with the money donated, so please do take a look at where your money goes and sponsor me by clicking the SPONSOR ME NOW button.

Your support will help UNICEF to provide young people in Brazil with opportunities and resources to build a better future. Your fundraising activities will go towards a major UNICEF sports project that encourages young Brazilians to increase their chances of getting a better education and a happier life through participation in sport.

Below are some examples of how the money you raise could be used to help:
  ~ £2.60 will buy 10 skipping ropes
  ~ £6.50 will buy a double desk
~ £15 will buy a Volleyball net and ball
  ~ £40 will buy 10 soccer balls
~ £113 will buy a complete 'Sport in a Box' kit which can provide games for up to 90 children.

Donating is easy!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Unicef gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

If you'd like more information, then please read on below. Otherwise, I would be really grateful for your support and sponsorship.

So please  go ahead and click the Sponsor me now button!

Thanks very much - I really do appreciate your help!

Further information regarding where the money will go:

Children go to school in Brazil for only 4 hours each day and the majority of parents work outside of the home. This means that millions of children remain at home alone or out on the street where they can be vulnerable to crime, violence, teenage pregnancy and drugs. Furthermore, school drop-out rates are high: only 59% of the children that start first grade finish their primary education and only 40 in every 100 finish secondary education.

UNICEF Sports for Development projects assist children in areas where there are high levels of poverty, social exclusion and violence. Many of these children do not have access to sport and leisure facilities. With your support UNICEF will set up Sports for Development projects in Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Organised sport and cultural activities provide opportunities for self-expression. They help young people to develop skills in communication, negotiation and leadership. Sport promotes friendship, teamwork and self-discipline. These skills help young people to meet the challenges they face and can assist them to become responsible members of their communities.

Your donations will:
Buy sports equipment (balls, nets, kits and more!)
Pay for sports tournaments and competitions
Fund cultural workshops in theatre, capoeira and youth participation
Help UNICEF and local communities to set up sports activities and tell young people about them
Allow communities to identify sports facilities
 Train community sports workers
