My story

23/04/2007 Update - In spite of the very warm conditions, I finally made it round the course in 4:11:54.  I was well within the 4hr pace until about half way, but the conditions got to me, although I did manage to avoid walking (for the first time in a number of years).

The winner of the bottle of Champagne was Louisa Ford from work who guessed 4:12:00.

If you haven't sponsored me yet, but would still like to, it's not too late as this website is available for 2 months after the event.  Many thanks to all those who have sponsored me so generously this year, with the bank's matched giving scheme (for the first £500) I will have beaten my previous fundraising total, even if I didn't beat my race PB.

Thanks again

Rob / Alun

For some strange reason I have again agreed to run the London Marathon for RAFT (http://www.raft.ac.uk/).  This will be the 11th time I've run for them and my dad will also be running for them (this is his 13th time, and he turned 70 at the end of last year!!!).

If you're wondering what the image on the left is all about, the team running for RAFT had the opportunity to visit 10 Downing Street at the end of March, at the  invitation of Cherie Booth QC, one of the charity's patrons.   I felt a little out of place with my attire as we were asked to attend in our running gear, but nevertheless it was an occasion not to be missed.

As usual my training has not really followed the standard regime most runners rely on, however I completed the Bath Half on 25 March in 1h 52m, in spite of getting a cold, so am hoping that I'll get round OK.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RAFT will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

When you sponsor me, please put your estimate for my finishing time in the comment box,(to the minute and  second to avoid having a draw at the end).  I'll be giving a bottle of Champagne to the person who gets closest (last year I managed 4h 13m 27s but am hoping to break 4h this year)

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Rob (a.k.a. Alun)
